the theft

Although I blogged about this just the other day, some things bear repeating.

Redsock says:
You MUST read this story. I'm about half way through it and it is absolutely shocking.

(This may also give some people an idea of what is going on in the US that never gets reported in the mainstream media, meaning you have to live through it to know anything concrete about it).

The openness and audacity and sheer volume of the Republicans' crimes -- Kennedy stacks them up one after the next after the next after the next like cord wood -- in defiance of often days-old court orders -- is as brazen as anything you would find in a dictatorship.

As much as I follow what the regime has done, I still found myself shaking my head at these reports, wondering how is this possible???

If nothing comes from this story's publication, I almost feel like nothing will come from anything.

P.S.: The website has footnotes and links not in the print version.
The story is here. Please: print, read, circulate.

"How was this possible" is indeed the question. I wonder though whether it is similar to how religious fanatics can become ruthless killers, despite the typical peace and goodness and humanity that ostensibly forms the basis of most major religions.

Post-hoc rationalization is a powerful and scary skill, I guess.

I don't really expect anything to come of it. After all, the Republicans got away with the stuff they did in 2000, and that was far more blatant than the 2004 stuff.

Nothing's going to catch up to the Republicans until the press stops taking the "Democrats: Traitors Or Just Insane?" approach to political reporting (see, for example: John Murtha & Haditha)

As a Canadian who has been surveying the blogosphere at home and abroad, I unhesitatingly recommend DailyKos http://www.dailykos.com as a source for followups on the Kennedy 'stolen election' story, as well as science, culture, and social-economic issues. What fascinates me about this group blog is the unusual way they use readers' comments and votes for best story. Unlike a wiki, the original text remains unchanged, but the comments and updates keep coming from all sides.

2004 was more blatant, or more widespread, or more cunning, or more something.

2000 could not have happened without the Supreme Court. For 2004, they weren't going to let it get even close to that point.

One of the more depressing aspects of all this is that even with a Mount Everest of documented, provable crimes, the Democrats -- almost 100% across the board -- have not said a peep.

Makes you wonder .......

One bad thing about Kos:

The site allows no discussion of 9/11 that differs from The Official Story (TM).

According to their FAQ:

-------------------------------
Controversial 9/11 Diaries
DailyKos accepts that the 9/11 attacks were perpetrated by agents of Al-Qaeda. It is forbidden to write diaries that:
1. refer to claims that American, British, Israeli, or any government assisted in the attacks
2. refer to claims that the airplanes that crashed into the WTC and Pentagon were not the cause of the damage to those buildings or their subsequent collapse
Authoring or recommending these diaries may result in banning from Daily Kos.
-------------------------------

Not making claims, mind you, but even referring to them. FORBIDDEN!

Jeez. Again, why the hostility to anything that is not in lockstep with the Regime, even if it simply asks a question?

I still haven't read all the way through it but I will.

I already knew most of it (or believed it, anyhow) without all the documentation.

The media is certainly complicit in this.

the Democrats -- almost 100% across the board -- have not said a peep.

More complicity.

Re DailyKos forbidding 9/11 discussion, that is really sad. If I were a 9/11 activist (as Allan is), I would find that incredibly frustrating. If our own alternative media won't allow open discussions, what hope is there to interest the mainstream?

It's such a terrible shame that all 9/11 truth activists have been tarred with the same "conspiracy theory wacko" brush. It's enough to make me wonder who's behind some of the wackiness...

As another American Expat, now very happy to be a dual citizen, I feel torn about this. While we all knew it happened (but were too afraid or timid to shout it out), seeds are being sown for a similar dictatorial lurch here in Canada.

I'm not talking specifically about Harper (although he makes me foam at the mouth almost as much as his idol), but the fellow who is currently in the lead for the Liberal leadership: Michael Ignatieff.

His presence in 24 Sussex would guarantee that the left in this country (such as discussed by Romanow's article in this month's Walrus) would be left increasingly in the wilderness. Probably on a lake somewhere in Northern Manitoba...

No matter how you feel about Michael Ignatieff, how does that constitute a "similar dictatorial lurch"? I don't love him either, but we're talking about fraudulent elections here. In other words, non-elections. Non-democracy. How would Michael Ignatieff being the Liberal leader lead to fraudulent elections?

Also, what is it you feel torn about? (I'm truly asking, I think I'm not understanding something in your post.)

Welcome to wmtc. I'm always happy to meet other ex-pats from the US.
