robin long to stay in canada (for now)

Iraq war resister Robin Long, who was arrested on Monday, was released the following Wednesday after a hearing at the Vancouver offices of Immigration Canada. The War Resisters Support Campaign thanks everyone who faxed, phoned and emailed in support of Robin.

Long still faces a "pre-removal risk assessment," the first step in deportation hearings, so his struggles are not over. But the enormous public pressure in support of Robin's release did help: he's still here.

This shows that, in our fight to offer a safe haven to Iraq war resisters, public opinion matters. Letting war deserters stay in Canada is part of making (or keeping) Canada the country we want her to be, a country we can be proud of.

If you haven't done so already, please contact the federal government and tell them: Let Them Stay.
