Stop the deportation of US war resister Robin Long
Emergency Action: TODAY, Wednesday October 3

Vancouver: 9:30 a.m.

Toronto: 4:30 p.m.
southeast corner of University and Dundas

U.S. war resister Robin Long was arrested on Monday, October 1 by police in Nelson, British Columbia. He faces immediate deportation to the US.

Long is from Boise, Idaho. Long served two years at Fort Knox. He received orders in March 2005 to report to Iraq and meet up with his new unit in May. In June 2005, he hitchhiked to Canada. Long says: "I still don't think that Bush has proven we have any reason to be over there, and I would be wrong to be a tool of destruction."

How you can help:

  • If you work in Vancouver or Toronto, join the protests this morning or this afternoon.

  • Take a moment to email or phone Minister of Immigration Diane Finley to demand that Robin not be sent back to the US, where he faces incarceration and could be sent to Iraq.

  • Please phone or email the opposition party leaders to ask them to support a political provision to allow US war resisters to stay in Canada. If the opposition parties unite, such a provision could easily be adopted.
