A few days ago, South Africa became the fifth nation on the planet to legalize gay marriage.
South Africa has actually been liberal in terms of gay rights; its constitution was the first in the world to specifically ban discrimination based on sexual orientation. (Of course, the country didn't have a constitution until 1996...) But South African same-sex couples have had the right to legally adopt children for years, so legal marriage wasn't far behind.
Ah, South Africa, with its rich tradition of equality and freedom. Perhaps it will shine a beacon for the poor, backwards US, dwelling in the past.

You know what's espeicially cool? There was a discenting opinion on the court about the ruling that gay marriage must be legalized within a year. But the discention was that it should be legalized immediately.
