unexpected exploring

We've been going to the leash-free area of Jack Darling Memorial Park ever since we first moved to Canada, when we lived in the lovely lakefront Port Credit section of Mississauga.

It's a really special dog park because it includes wooded trails, so you and your dog can take a mini-hike together. It's fully fenced, so the dogs can be free to roam and explore. Our dogs absolutely love it. I really enjoy being able to get some exercise, instead of just standing around as we do at most dog parks. (In fact, I have so little patience for that standing-around thing that Allan usually takes the dogs without me.)

Now that we moved into the heart of Mississauga, away from the Lake, Jack Darling is much farther away. There's a standard dog park nearby, and we only go to Jack Darling once in a while, for a special treat. Because of that, we didn't know that the there's a big construction project underway there, and the leash-free area has been moved to a much smaller - but still very nice - temporary area.

Yesterday I was celebrating being done (DONE!!) with my big writing/editing project, so we drove down to Jack Darling and discovered this change. After the dogs got some leash-free time in the temporary area, we hooked them up and checked out the rest of Jack Darling. We had never seen it before, and it is beautiful!

It's a serene, pristine section of the Waterfront Trail, with beautiful old trees, paved bike/walk paths, a clean, sandy beachfront and a perfect view of the Toronto skyline.

We didn't find Rattray Marsh, which I recently read about, but I see from the map we were very nearby. We'll definitely look for it the next time we're there, which I think will be soon. I didn't bring the camera, but a Google image search turns up some nice pics.
