back from interview

Lone Primate, who's been blogging about Highway 401, said: "I hope you'll tell us more about the interview when you get back, LK." Who am I to turn down such a request?

The author of this essay (which I linked to here) wanted to speak to Allan and I about our reasons for leaving, and our thoughts about the future.

He's thinking in generational terms, of older people making war for younger people to fight, and what young people can do to change things. I think more in terms of class: people with power making war for their own profit, sending the powerless to fight for them. I feel more in common with progressive-minded people both 20 years younger and 20 years older than me, than I do with people my own age who are wealthy and conservative. Phill asked us questions about "Generation X", but I confess, I don't know what that is supposed to represent. His perspective isn't wrong, but it's different than mine. So it made for some interesting conversation.

This is the second interview we've done. (I don't know if the Japanese journalist's piece ever came out?). It's an interesting exercise, to try to articulate one's thoughts out loud - even more so than blogging. People are especially interested in our response to our detractors, from both the left and right.

I don't know what else to say about the interview, so if you want to know something, just ask. And of course if the article runs, I'll post it.

After the interview, I was supposed to do some city stuff, but the heat is really knocking me out. I still have a sightseeing list to accomplish, things I was planning on doing in May and June. Suddenly I had my hands full with writing deadlines, and everything had to wait. Now it's just too hot and humid. I'm still trying, but I'm not sure how it will go.
