My sister-in-law, who posts here as mkk, and my brother will be visiting Vancouver this spring, with an eye to possibly moving there one day. Yes, more of my family is considering emigrating to Canada!
I know several of you live in BC - Wrye, the Canadian Surfer, Cin, and Expat Traveler, for a start. Other friends of wmtc are originally from that area, among them teflonjedi. Of course mkk is doing research and will have a guidebook and all those sorts of things, but there's no substitute for local knowledge. Let's use this post as a place for thoughts and suggestions about their visit - and possible relocation - to Vancouver.

Laura, it was so wonderful to see you, Allan, and Cody! We hope that all three of you will visit us again soon, even if our West-Coasters are not here.
I'm in Vancouver as well. I've been here for 1.5 years now. I am currently living over on the north shore in north van while the husband to be lives out in south vancouver. He's lived everywhere in the vancouver area so I've been able to learn a lot about the entire area. We've got friends everywhere and are interested in buying a house one day so I've been able to do a lot of research. If you want more info, I'm free to give more. - Jen

We've been in North Vancouver (just near Princess Park) since January 2004 and love it.
I highly recommend checking out Vancouver User Guide which is packed full of useful info for moving to Vancouver.

Ah Vancouver! I only lived here for 4 months in '95 but have loved the place ever since. I lived in Kitsilano (aka Kits) right on Pt Grey Ave (Blvd? Rd?) by one of the beaches (we were right across the street from David Suzuki for Canadiophiles out there). I was back for a work visa renewal last year and Kits seems to be going strong. That's where I'd live again if i were to move there. I look forward to the half-marathon in May/June? -- we'll likely be entering if we can make the time off work.

Sadly, my useful comments regarding my hometown date back 13 years to 1992. I don't get home often enough (part of the reasoning behind the recent switch in jobs and my move clear across the continent). I'm out of date!
Best memories? UBC has a spectacular campus, well worth a visit. You could easily get lost in Stanley Park for a day. Lynn Canyon is beautiful, and not on most folks' radar screens.
North and West Van are great places, but the commute across to Vancouver used to be very unpleasant. Kits and English Bay were happening places to live, back in the day. East Van, I'm sure, is still to be avoided. Thr biggest shopping mall used to be called "Metrotown", in Burnaby, but I think it's called "Metropolis" these days.
I grew up in New Westminster, which was pretty suburban and nondescript, but has good road and Skytrain links into Vancouver and across the Fraser river into Delta and Surrey.

I've been in Vancouver for most (but not all) of my life in Canada - first in the downtown core, then to the suburbs in my teens, and now, back in the core. The city has evolved, and I'd be happy to answer questions, or at least point y'all in the right direction :)
