happy canada day!

Fortunately for my pride, ALPF left a comment late yesterday. Otherwise I might not have known it was Canada Day. That wouldn't do for this budding new Canadian, would it?

My soon-to-be-neighbor (20 minutes up the QEW) sent these links, where we can take a Canada quiz and learn more about Canadian history.

So what do Canadians do for Canada Day? Anything?

Happy Canada Day! What do people do ... It's a holiday, so we don't check the mail or do our banking or go to the Beer Store. It looks a lot like the Fourth of July, I guess, with parades, picnics, fireworks, concerts, hot dogs, and kids waving little flags. I plan to check out the parade in my neighbourhood. The news will probably show a group of new Canadians getting their citizenship today; that's always moving to see.

Happy 138th birthday, Canada!

138 years! So young, and yet already so wise.

Same as you guys... drink, blow things up at night. You'll find the same is true of Victoria Day, but that's less about the country and more about "thank Jehosephat f***ing winter's over!". :)

They'll be broadcasting the ceremony from Parliament Hill at noon EST today on CBC Newsworld. I don't imagine you get that in NY, though. :)

We have this international news channel on cable - a half-hour each from various countries. CBC comes on twice a day, and I occasionally catch it.

Countdown to CBC... :)

Parade report: delightfully cheesy. Jack Layton (my MP) rode a tandem bike with Marilyn Churley (my MPP). Convertibles with local politicians and girls in tiaras. Hydro truck with a red crepe paper streamer. Fire truck. Motorcycle cops. No floats, no clowns, no bands. Loved it!

Thanks for the report! I'll see you there next year. :)

If it was anything like Pride....

They drink beer, lots and lots of beer :-)

Beer, the beach, beautiful girls, more beer, more beach, more beautiful girls. Bar right on the beach, a half hour from the house, sure helps make that dream a reality. Days like Canada Day are a legitimate excuse to indulge in my fantasy life. If I could live this day, every day ... sigh ... the dream lives on.

138 years ... and proving that everything truly does improve with age. We sure have ... congratulations Canada on legalizing same-sex marriage! Our true north strong and ... FREE.
