california mini-vacation, day 3

Yesterday AWE, E and I went out for lunch - it was supposed to be breakfast, but we didn't get out of the house early enough, no one being inclined to rush. We had another fabulous meal, then went for a hike in a nearby park. It's E's place to feel she's in the wilderness, and it really worked. Groves of redwoods and eucalyptus trees, deep forest, steep hills so you feel like you've descended into a canyon. There is nothing more relaxing to me than being in the woods.

After the hike we shopped for dinner, which was great fun for me. E is all about local, organic cooking and eating, and it's a whole lot easier and more fun to do that in northern California than in Ontario! I was walking around the market going, "Asparagus? Local asparagus is out already? Strawberries? You have strawberries already?" Plus all these great markets full of local goodness are in walking distance. Really nice. After that, AWE and I watched E cook while we all gabbed for hours.

Later on, J and C arrived, and we all ate and talked until it got late and those with work the next day had to pry themselves away. It was my first opportunity to get to know C in more depth, so I was glad for that. Long conversations with J are more intellectual than political, different for me, but interesting.

This morning, E left for work and I'm drinking coffee and blogging before waking up AWE, then we'll hit the road. The Pacific coast is one of the most beautiful drives in the world. I'm excited to see it again.

I am truly amazed at how refreshed and restored I feel.
