u.s. takes a step towards civilization, but just barely

d at Are We Still A Democracy has a good post and link about the recent 5-4 Supreme Court decision rejecting the death penalty for people who committed crimes when under 18 years old.

This Court has actually written some very good decisions limiting the use and scope of capital punishment, as it has rightfully allowed itself to be influenced by the public's increasing understanding of the injustice inherent in the system. (That understanding brought to us by the tireless work of groups like The Innocence Project, the NCADP and the people behind the play (later made into a CourtTV movie) The Exonerated.)

Neanderthal Justice Scalia (with apologies to cavemen everywhere), who is thought to be the next Chief Justice, will do his best to make sure those decisions are reversed.
