take action to protect women's human rights

The good folks of the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada think the "Unborn Victims of Crime Act" stands an even chance of becoming law. This is bad news.

So-called fetal protection laws don't protect anybody. These laws are dangerous to women, and they open the door to other supposedly "protective" measures. If you believe that women are fully equal humans, capable of making their own decisions, you should oppose this law.

We cannot allow sympathy for victims of violent crimes to cloud our judgment - or the judgment of our lawmakers. Fetuses do not have legal status as humans in Canada, and we need to keep it that way.

We need to speak out, loudly and clearly, against this bill.

Here's what you can do:

1. Sign this petition.

2. Post the petition on your own blog and in any forum you frequent.

3. Write your MP. Talking points - which I lifted from ARCC - are available here.

4. Email your contacts who would be receptive, and ask them to do the same.

The bill is expected to be read for the second time on February 25, and come up for a vote on March 5.
