The iced coffee problem has been solved! (Alex E, are you reading?) Thanks to James and Lori, I checked out the Port Credit Starbucks. Lo and behold: ice brewed coffee and the horrendously named but delicious iced Americano. I don't know where there are Starbucks in Toronto, but I'll soon be learning.
I'm also going to tell Second Cup, for what it's worth, that I'd rather spend my loonies there, if only they'd satisfy my summer craving.

I forgot to tell you when we got back that John threw a minor fit after finding no iced coffee at any Second Cup we went into and none at any Tim Hortons either. Although at one point, one did serve him something they said was iced coffee and it turned out to be some sort of whipped-mocha-frappa-iced-chino thing he promptly sent back. Clearly not iced coffee. As New Yorkers we were clearly ready to spend the first summer in awhile without iced coffee. However, we too stumbled upon several Starbucks serving iced coffee. Yonge, Queen E near Yonge, King E near FCP where his office is. All with iced coffee. Maybe some of the local chains will pick up on the practice if begged loudly enough. It's truly not summer without iced coffee. :)

There's a Starbucks at Queen & John, kitty-corner from CityTV. That's the main one I know. There are lots and lots around, and plents of Second Cups if you want to berate them. :)
James, tell Lori I totally believed her. I just didn't dare get my hopes up. I couldn't bear the disappointment. ;-)
Matt, tell John I understand, big time. I wish I had sent mine back, too. Who would have guessed we'd leave NYC and actually look for Starbucks! When they were taking over our city two-per-block, we hated them!
Starbucks? Toronto? They're everywhere. Won't take you long to find one.
Although something interesting about Starbucks locales is there is almost always a Second Cup right next door, no matter which city you're in.

This is interesting, because to a former New Yorker, Starbucks is almost nonexistant in Toronto.
In NYC, they have literally taken over the landscape. There is one on every block of midtown and downtown - and often more than one per block! - and most neighbourhoods that are even semi-upscale are inundated too. Starbucks in NYC is like a plague of locusts that just keeps multiplying.
So to my eyes, in Toronto, they are few and far between, and easy to miss.
Well, OK ... not "everywhere" like the Tim Hortons world-domination-via-coffee-sales plan.
But it seems wherever I travel in this city, I pass a few Starbucks (and of course, Second Cups). In other words, not "everywhere" as in NYC, but still enough that one is very easy to find.
I guess "everywhere" is a relative state. :)

There's a great scene in the Simpsons episode where Bart gets a tattoo. He goes to the tattoo place in the mall, and the guy there says, "Well, ok, kid, but it'll have to be fast -- this place is scheduled to become a Starbucks in five minutes!"
As Bart's leaving, he turns to look back, and ever store on all three levels has turned into a Starbucks.

That's how I felt about the whole city! :)
There's also that line from the movie "Best In Show": "We met at Starbucks. Not the same Starbucks..." They were each sitting in a Starbucks, across the street from each other, and waved...
