let them stay week 2, day 3 - leafletting day

[Allan Guest Post]

As part of Let Them Stay Week 2, today is Leafletting Day.

You can download a leaflet here (Word doc). Print a bunch of them, choose a busy street corner (or subway entrance) in your city and hand 'em out!

Help spread the word that the Canada government should allow war resisters like Kimberly Rivera (whose scheduled deportation date is next Thursday) to stay in Canada and live in peace.

That is what a clear majority of the Canadian people want.

That is what a clear majority of Parliament wants.

We now need the minority conservative government to honour democracy, respect the will of the people, and let them stay.

Some info from the leaflet:
Canada resisted the Iraq war and 64% of Canadians support U.S. Iraq war resisters (Angus Reid poll)

On June 3rd, the House of Commons passed a motion to stop deporting war resisters, and to let them stay

On February 12th, the House Immigration Committee voted again: stop deporting war resisters, let them stay

Prime Minister Harper ignores Parliament and deports war resisters to punishment ...

Immigration Minister Kenney interfered in the immigration process, labeling war resisters "bogus refugee claimants" -- a smear denounced by the Canadian Council for Refugees

"We urge you to allow such war resisters to remain in Canada on humanitarian and compassionate grounds" -- Canadian Council for Refugees

"I would like you to implement the motion passed in the House of Commons June 3rd allowing resisters a chance to stay and apply for permanent residence in Canada" -- Kimberly Rivera
