let them stay calendar and update

There are tons of stuff going on in Resisterville these days. We could hear any minute about whether the Riveras can stay safely in Canada for a while longer, or whether Jason Kenney & Co. will successfully force them out. The Hart family is cleared until April 27. We also may soon hear about the Hinzmans.

There are many opportunities coming up to support the war resisters, and to support peace and justice generally. I'll be away next week (March 9-13), then cranking out a writing assignment the week after (March 16-23). This undoubtedly means I'll miss a lot of daily updates, so here's a look ahead.

In Toronto, the theme of IWD 2009 is Good Jobs & Dignity For All. Join a rally at 11:00 a.m. and a march at 1:00 p.m. Info here.

March 30: George Galloway will be speaking in Toronto, to benefit the Canadian Peace Alliance.

I can't believe I am going to miss this event! This is the week I visit my mom and other family and friends in New York and New Jersey. Damn. I don't have details yet, but it's a great opportunity to hear from a steadfast supporter of peace and justice. Hopefully ALlan will go and take notes.

April 4: Global Day of Action during NATO Summit

In the US, there will be a huge mobilization in New York City.

Across Canada, there will demonstrations calling for an end to the war in Afghanistan. Check the Canadian Peace Alliance for info.

April 4 is also an annual Refugee Rights Day. 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the Refugee Convention in Canada.

April 4 is also the anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Every one of these events and anniversaries cries Stop The Deportations! and Let Them Stay!
