trolls vs. polls

This blog is being bombarded by would-be commenters trying to announce that the majority of Canadians do not want Iraq War resisters to stay in Canada, but want to see them deported, then jailed.

I don't know where the trolls get their information (actually I do, they make it up), but actual polls say otherwise. According to an Angus Reid survey, nearly two-thirds of Canadians (64%) say US war resisters should be allowed to stay in Canada. Even in Alberta, the most politically conservative province, a slim majority (52%) supports war resisters in Canada. Quebec - still part of Canada, folks! - clocked in at a full 70% in support.

If more proof is needed, a majority of Parliament - representing a majority of Canadians - voted to Let Them Stay in June, 2008.

If you don't support war resisters, you're entitled to your beliefs, however misinformed they might be. But don't go around speaking for the majority unless you've got something to back it up.
