immigration question from wmtc reader

A family in the immigration process who has been emailing me off and on for a couple of years is having a problem.
...can't get past the FBI fingerprint report. Twice we have had the print sheet sent back with the comment, "unable to read prints" or something about the character not being readable. Probably this is due to constant washings when my wife worked as a registered nurse, prior to being a mother to our two children.

I have emailed the Canadian Consulate in Buffalo and asked if optical scans would do in this instance. They didn't respond to that question, but said to send all information together and give a full and lengthy explanation of any forms or information left undone.

Any suggestions you may have would be totally appreciated. Maybe someone else has had the same experience. This is truly holding up our application, as now this FBI report has to be done at the same time as the forms and sent with them. Thanks for your help.

The only advice I could offer is to reinforce what the Consulate said: write a detailed letter explaining why they can't provide any omitted information. We had a few minor gaps in our applications, and that's what we did. However, our missing information was not as significant as FBI checks. But if they can't get fingerprints, what else can they do?

If any readers who have been through the US-to-Canada immigration process, or are currently in it, have experience with this, these folks would really appreciate hearing from them. Please answer in comments so they can check back without my having to forward an email. Thanks a lot.
