what i'm watching: new york city

I just saw a good movie called "Heights," directed by Chris Terrio, written by Amy Fox (based on her play), with Glenn Close, Elizabeth Banks and James Marsden. It's a small, poignant film about people trying to sort out who they love and what they need, and whether or not the two are the same.

The movie was good, but for me it was upstaged by the backdrop: New York City. Unlike the last movie I saw that supposedly took place in New York, but was filmed in Vancouver, "Heights" was obviously and inescapably filmed in Manhattan. The movie has an earthy, authentic feel; the filmmakers captured the texture of the city so well. There are some nice scene shots on the film's website.

I miss New York. I don't wish I were living there. I just miss it.
