german police recognize that they are part of the 99%, take off helmets, escort protesters

This is one of the most beautiful things I've seen in a very long time.

The German police took off their helmets and marched with the protest clearing the way for them.

. . . . German police officers escort an anti-capitalism protest march with some 20,000 people in Frankfurt, Germany, Saturday, May 19, 2012. Protesters peacefully filled the city center of continental Europe’s biggest financial hub in their protest against the dominance of banks and what they perceive to be untamed capitalism, Frankfurt police spokesman Ruediger Regis said. The protest group calling itself Blockupy has called for blocking the access to the European Central Bank, which is located in Frankfurt’s business district.

At the 2012 Marxism conference, one theme was heard again and again: how the ruling class seeks to divide us. Nonunion workers against union workers. Queers against straights. Men against women. Brown against white. Christian against Muslim. Native-born against immigrants. Police against policed.

But we recognize that what unites us is stronger than what divides us. Our job is to help others understand that all the working people of the world have more in common with each other than we do with the powerful corporations and governments that shape our lives, and we can only build resistance when we work together.

Here, the police in Frankfort, Germany, made that connection, and acted on it. Solidarity!

Go directly to the YouTube version and have a look at Update #3.

Please, do not shoot the messenger :(

Is it a hoax? I feared that at first, then checked it out, or thought I did.

If you have info, could you please post it here rather than tell us where to look? Thank you.

I have been looking and have not found anything. If anyone has info, please post here or email me.

Why do people leave cryptic comments?? What is the point of that???

Why do people leave cryptic comments??

It's because of that thing ....

This video looks real.

I have spent quite a bit of time scouring the internet for more information that might pertain to Sassy's comment. I can't find anything. As far as I can tell, this is the YouTube version. I don't see anything called "Update #3".

OK, I'll guess I'll stop now. Either Sassy will return to explain or s/he won't.

More research, and this is what I've come up with. The photo is real. But the interpretation of the photo may be incorrect. The police did remove their helmets, and they did escort a large demo, but that may not mean they were in sympathy with the Occupy protestors. There are people decrying the interpretation of the photo and video as false.

Hi Laura,

Sorry, I did not intend to to cryptic.

This video is the one with the posted updates.

UPDATE 3. Dear friends. Thank you again for your solidarity. I just have to say about the police: they weren't supporting demonstration. Really. They took their helmets off just because it was too hot weather. I don't want to destroy your hopes, I myself would really love if police would became supporters of protests (demonstrants even had pretty cool transparents "Dear police, honestly, when was your last pay raise?" . But till now it wasn't so. They arrested hundreds of people instead.

If true, it's unfortunate - would have been good to see the police in support of the 99%.

Hi Sassy, thanks for the info. I knew you weren't being intentionally cryptic.

@Laura - well in your defense, I should have provided a link with my first comment :(

Yes, that is true. I need no defense. ;)
