in which a talking dog distracts us from boring schoolwork

Ah, November. Along with its evil twin March, the worst months for university and grad students. The school term is almost over, yet so much work is still ahead of me. I'm counting weeks.

I have so many things I want to blog about, and no time to write. I'm determined to get to as much of it as I can. Meanwhile, enjoy this video. I don't usually go for the talking animal routines, but this... melt.

Wait a second!

Sometimes (regularly and often, to be candid) when reading my boring student stuff online is driving me crazy, I look around the web for something to distract me, which is how and when I usually arrive on your electronic doorstep. But if you're meanwhile out cruising the web looking for something to distract you from your boring schoolwork...there's something not right in the picture, even if I can't quite name it.

When is Truck Day?

I actually don't cruise the web looking for distractions. That's too... distracting.

I check email obsessively and play Spider (or Freecell or whatever my current obsession). The talking dog video arrived in an email.

Does that help?

Next time someone needs a distraction, here's a cat getting swarmed by a roving gang of puppies.

Does that help? Thank god for my already-shaky work ethic that I have no idea what Spider or Freecell are....

I enjoyed the video, laughed out loud, and even thought my sobersided wife might like it, even though I vowed about ten years ago I would never tease a dog again (Dogs do have looks of reproach, deep reproach, and know when they are being laughed at. One day Scooter made it clear to me that our relationship would remain strained until my sense of humor became more compatible with his, i.e., nonexistent.) Jean laughed too, but said, 'It's a tease.'

So, yeah, funny but a tease--I hope after the shoot he was treated as any star deserves--with a large handful of fried liver or a half-rack of raw beef baby back ribs.

That's even funnier, imp strump! The cat looks sooooo unimpressed, and the accompanying score is hilarious. Puppies, I miss puppies!

You know, John, I thought of that, because you once had a strong reaction to vid I posted with a dog being teased - playfully and happily, I thought, but you disagreed.

The thing about this, though, is that the dog is not being teased. The teasing is happening only in a voice-over for our benefit. The dog is just making his sad-eyed expression and a few talking noises.

And Spider and Free Cell are solitaire games. I play computer-based solitaire obsessively. I do it automatically while I'm waiting or thinking.

Bonus is that they guy who did the video is from Halifax.

OMG I LOL'd through the entire vid. How about that one dog standing around looking bored? Puppies puppies puppies they are so great!!!

I wasn't really too worried about the talking dog, Laura--I may be over-sensitized on the issue.

I think I can resist solitaire, nearly positive....

laura k said...

Oh, okay. I am just being sensitive to your oversensitivity. :)

I am addicted to solitaire. On my old handheld PC, I had a program that had 300 different solitaire games.

On my BlackBerry I just have Brickbreaker. Also an addiction.

Cool! Or as I always say, "Plus, he's Canadian!"

Also pertinent to this thread, have you seen the newly-elected leader of Occupy Denver?

I love it. So cute.

Also, thanks to Impudent Strumpet for the cat getting swarmed by puppies - love the music.

There, I'm suitably distracted - thank you. Time to get back to work and play some solitaire.

I have a midterm this week in Spider 301, advanced techniques.

I thought every video had a MAXIMUM number of times I'd be able to view it without getting bored or stopping laughing - nope. I swear, I've watched this thing 100 times or more and still LAUGH my ass off.
