because facts matter: ask for the long form census

From Facebook:
On your census Comments section, you can indicate your support for reinstating the mandatory long form. For example, "We would be happy to fill out a mandatory Long Form, to improve planning of public services". Statistics Canada can compile the comments and use these in future political arguments for reinstatement.

(Note that making this comment has nothing to do with whether you will be randomly selected for the voluntary National Household Survey.)

Spread the word! Blog, tweet, Facebook: Ask for the long form census!

I wrote in the comments: What does being in a same sex marriage have to do with my city providing essential services?

I was pissed when I got my census. What a load of crock.

We were selected but I've already filled it out. The questions were really basic. Basically the number and age of people in the house and their relationship to each other.

I wish I'd seen this before I did mine. It did actually occur to me to write "Is that all?" in the comments because I was so surprised that it was so short. I got the long form last time around, and it was enormous fun!

I not only asked them to bring back the long form, but also complained that my marital status (civil union) was not among their options! It is an important distinction for me that I am NOT "married", yet I am in a legal union that has the same rights and responsibilities. They should recognize (as Quebec does) those of us who believe in pair-bonding but not in the patriarchal institution of marriage.

Cat, that's interesting to me, as I also don't wish to be legally married, and for the same reasons, I would also not have a civil union, which to me is just an areligious legal ceremony. To me they're the same thing, either with or without religion. I check domestic partnership or common-law marriage.

Random idea I saw on twitter: Print out the 2006 long form, fill it out, and attach it to your 2011 short form.

(Not saying it's a good idea, just amusing.)

Ooh, I got selected for the long form and added in the comments that I think everyone should fill the long form out in order to better plan municipal and social services.

Nice!

Plus from your comment, I get to see an Imp Strump comment that I somehow missed about a month ago.
