She says "we are burying our kids ... for what? For what?", but also says that Canadian troops in Afghanistan are "standing on guard for us".I don't know what else she has said publicly, but maybe she needs to feel that there is exists some small shred of good reason why her son was killed.
I think that's very likely. But in another sense, there's no contradiction in those two statements. She's saying, the troops are supposed to be there for us, but she's questioning whether or not that is so.
