An officer tasers a woman holding a one-year-old and a five-year-old on her lap, and the RCMP continues to investigate itself.
Elsewhere, Radley Balko asks, What Does It Take for a Police Officer to Get Fired? Read this one. Seriously. (Thanks to James, via The Lippard Blog.)

Any chance of suing Taser for false advertising with their "Tasers are safe" claims?
My first thought was that they must have been really scary babies...you know, sarcasm. But then I wondered whether there was concern that the children might have been harmed. They were being removed from the situation. And while a mom and her kids does sound like a ludicrous target, I know enough about child abuse to think 2x and ask whether there was worry about the kids.
Absolutely. Child Protective Services were trying to remove her from the children and she was apparently not relinquishing them immediately. But come on. There's been no suggestion that the woman was armed or that she was attempting to hurt either the kids or the cops. Not that I have seen, anyway.
