ignatieff talks tough but the liberals are still spineless

Shorter Ignatieff:

The budget is very bad, it's very bad, it's kind of bad, it's bad. But... it's not so bad. I'm going to live with it anyway.

* * * *

These goddamn Liberals. They get to act tough, showcase Ignatieff's tough-talking leadership, and then defeat the Government and have an election when they're good and ready, and when they feel Canadians are amenable to it.

And we're stuck with this bullshit Government and their unfocused, grab-bag budget that does more for wealthy folks remodelling their kitchens than working people thrown out of work and barely hanging on.

It's no big surprise, we knew Ignatieff wasn't really into the coalition, but it still sucks.

Ignatieff has shown himself to be no different than Dion. Talk tough and then sit on his ass and do nothing.

He calls Harper "reckless, arrogant and short-sighted". He outlines about 8 aspects of the budget that utterly fail Canadians and utterly fail what he wanted to see in the budget. He goes on saying how Harper says things but never follows through.

Amazingly, Ignatieff said his amendments ADDRESS NONE OF THE MAJOR ISSUES THAT HE FINDS SO INTOLERABLE.

Instead, he is merely proposing that Harper give periodic reports on how he is doing on these budget promises -- promises that Ignatieff said throughout his press conference are basically bullshit.

He contradicted himself from one sentence to the next in both his statement and his answers to the press.

He's worthless. He's no leader. He talked a bit tough than Dion, but I see absolutely no difference between them when it comes to action.

He is content to sit on his ass while Harper ignores the most important things than Ignatieff wanted to see addressed.

"Harper better do this or else I'm bringing him down. ... What? Harper didn't do those things? Not even a little bit? Oh well."

He's Harper's crutch.

Plus -- not having watched him really at all before today -- when the squinty fucker finishes a sentence, he often forces a disgusting smile through that reminds me a lot of Bush.

I fucking hate the Liberals. I don't know how any Canadian who considers themselves progressive can vote for them.

On February 6 -- a week from this Friday -- Harper will have been PM for three years.

And today, Ignatieff said we have to GIVE HARPER SOME TIME to make good on his promises.

Three fucking years of what Ignatieff today called a "reckless, arrogant, short-sighted" government that will be remembered by history as one of the most sorry episodes in recent Canadian history is not enough time? What the fuck is he waiting for?

He insisted that he is not in a coalition government with Harper. I'll need to see some evidence for that, if you don't mind.

No, no, no, see, this is the genius of Harper's budget. It's a "trickle down" effect: Rich people get more money, so they can give it to poor people, but only the poor people willing to work for it. That's the way they did it in the 1860s and it worked for them, why wouldn't it work for us too?

Oh yeah, trickle down, that worked great under Reagan.

For the millionaires.

NEWS ALERT
Liberals backing "new coalition" now: Layton

NDP Leader Jack Layton implied Wednesday that a coalition deal signed between his party and the Liberals in late 2008 was dead, telling reporters that Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff's conditional support for Tuesday's federal budget indicates Ignatieff is interested only in a "new coalition" with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

--------------------

Once again, Layton cuts through the bullshit and gets to the point.

I may still unfortunately be an USian, but I still grumble right along with you.

Let me tell you how this is possible. I have been a provincial NDP voter and a federal Liberal voter all my somewhat considerable life. It has almost always been a strategic vote. The NDP has never been close enough federally to form a government. If I vote NDP I might as well vote Harper. So I hold my nose and vote Liberal because I could never bring myself to vote Tory or do anything that would work out in favor of a Tory. The Liberals may at the moment seem gutless, but an election now could very well result in the worst possible outcome -- a Tory majority. If they go ahead with a coalition, they will wind up carrying the deficit can. Right now it's on Harper and they're probably wise to leave it so. Unfortunately this doesn't help the war resisters...

Strategic vote, unfortunately. If I vote Liberal federally I might as well vote for the Tories.

To my utmost regret, I see we still have the idiot in power!!! I hate it, I am so angry with Ignatieff and it is so disappointing and annoying. Now we still get more time of Harper, Kenney and the whole bunch!!! This guy was still not sent packing - o shit, I really hate that - again another delay and in the meantime, more of his trash happening!!! Hope it won't take so long any more until the guy will finally lose his job but ugh, still it's awful that it's so hard to get the guy finally voted out of his high office where he can cause so much trouble and so many problems and get so many people into grievous hardships. So, basically we have already gotten rid of Bush but not yet of his political accomplice North. I guess we need to hang in there and tell ourselves that better late than never and we should not lose hope but continue to work for a coalition
So sorry that yesterday it came thus to pass that it still takes more time and efforts (and some luck would be very helpful, too) till we will be free from the Harper Conservatives, too!

PaulM, it's been shown - proven - that strategic voting works in very, very few ridings. Perhaps you live in one of them. But generally, we would all be better off showing support for the party of our choice by voting for them, then continuing to work for proportional representation.

But if you're arguing that the Liberals are not actually gutless, but only "may seem" that way now, perhaps you are more comfortable with the Liberals than you care to admit.

I've been hearing how "this is would be the worst time for an election" and "an election will only give Harper a majority" over and over for years now. Enough already!

It should be clear by this time that Harper isn't our biggest problem. It's the cravenly self-serving opposition that props him up.
