what's missing here?

Something is missing from this news story. I wonder what it could be...
Time Running Out for Obama to Curb Global Warming

The urgency of problems related to global warming are increasing at a rapid pace and will no doubt prove to be a matter of urgency for President-elect Barack Obama.

WASHINGTON -- When Bill Clinton took office in 1993, global warming was a slow-moving environmental problem that was easy to ignore. Now it is a ticking time bomb that President-elect Barack Obama can't avoid.

Since Clinton's inauguration, summer Arctic sea ice has lost the equivalent of Alaska, California and Texas. The 10 hottest years on record have occurred since Clinton's second inauguration. Global warming is accelerating. Time is close to running out, and Obama knows it. ...

The average global temperature in 2008 is likely to wind up slightly under 57.9 degrees Fahrenheit, about a tenth of a degree cooler than last year. When Clinton was inaugurated, 57.9 easily would have been the warmest year on record. Now, that temperature would qualify as the ninth warmest year.

* * * *

I first saw this a few days ago at Fox News (the link is now dead), but it's actually an Associated Press story. Just another example (one of tens of thousands) of the utter worthlessness of the US media.

But wait! The sixth paragraph begins:
After years of inaction on global warming, 2009 might be different. Obama replaces a president who opposed mandatory cuts of greenhouse gas pollution and it appears he will have a willing Congress.

Fair and Balanced.

On a tangentially related note, my Father expressed the opinion that "Other countries in the world look to America and our jealous of our lifestyle."

When pressed further, in a fit of anger, he admitted to watching CNN and repeating Lou Dobbs near verbatim.

I suggest we change the name to US NOOZ!

a president

Clearly he's referring to someone who was legitimately elected president between Clinton and Obama.

I can't think of anyone who fits that description either.

O what a tangled web they weave...
As usual, it's all about agenda.

I lived in Virginia for 5 years and could not believe the slanted views and half-truths that were being presented by the 'impartial' media.

My recollection of the evening news was the focus on fear. Typically would run in a sequence like this:
1. Open with x number of murders from that day
2. Iraq
3. War on Terror (including the hilarious changing of the 'danger level' colours!)

The agenda was clearly to keep the American public in constant fear, to allow the Bush administration pretty much free reign in getting anything they asked for... Homeland Security anyone?

It was so refreshing to go home every once in a while and catch some actual world news...

I know I should be more concerned than amused, but the omission is just so obvious that it makes me laugh. Well, your presentation helped, too. It's a shame that many USians actually fall for it and will be blaming Clinton and Obama for the problems while deleting Bush from their minds.

Sometimes all you can do is laugh. I got a good chuckle out of this one too.

A sent it to me with the question, "What's missing here?"

I replied: "8 years?"
