If you've been reading this blog for a while, you know there are two seasons in my life: baseball season and movie season. I have seen exactly two movies since baseball season started in April, one for political reasons and one for Rolling Stones in IMAX reasons.
I'm in no rush for baseball season to end, but my experience last year taught me to plan ahead. In 2007, I waited until the Red Sox won the World Series to re-subscribe to Zip, and that left me without movies for several weeks. This year when the Red Sox win the 2008 World Series, I want to have movies waiting. Plus I'm getting bored on playoff nights-off.
Since I only see movies five months a year, of course I'm always way behind. I never even finish the list from one movie season before baseball season is back. But that's what it is when your team plays almost every day. Sacrifices must be made.
I'm always writing down titles, but I'm sure I've missed many, too. So once again I solicit your help. What are the best movies you've seen in the last six months?
This post will give you an idea of the kinds of movies we like: the we movie to canada awards.

The one movie that springs immediately to mind is "In Bruges". A fine movie -- and not one I expected to like at all. A warning, though -- it is violent here and there, and the violence is shown without much remorse at all.
It's been out a while but I didn't see it on your list, and a co-worker and I have been talking about the movie Hero quite a bit lately. If you haven't seen it, it would be worth making a point of doing so. I'm planning to re-watch it myself.
I read your previous ratings, and I thought I'd caution you that the latest Futurama DVD feature was at least a peg lower than Bender's Big Score. Much as I love Futurama, the Beast with a Billion Backs was not great; I think I would have ranked Big Score around the same place as you did, too.
Have you seen King Corn? We had a double feature (almost said header) with some friends recently of Who Killed the Electric Car and King Corn, and, while sort of depressing, it was a good night.
I'm sure I'll think of others, but there's my first offering.
Thanks!
In Bruges & Hero added. Futurama added because I must see all Futurama-related things! (But I take your caution, M@, thanks.)
We haven't seen Electric Car or King Corn - will do both, thanks Sarah.
King Corn sounds like what Michael Pollan writes about. Great!
I'm putting our ZipList together now. Maybe I should post it when I have it.
Gomonik, in case you're looking for your comment, you left it on last year's "movie season is open" post.
Oops. That's what happens when I don't have my coffee.
To reiterate: Grave of the Fireflies = awesome.
Thank you!

I relate. :)
We went to see "Fugitive pieces" almost on a whim, and were very moved. Very post-war TO at the same time as very war-torn Europe. Beautiful.
"Taxi to the Dark Side" was chilling, but necessary.
Cusack's "War inc." was over-the-top (of course) and entertaining -- plus our local indy cinema ran it as a benefit showing for the London War Resisters Support Group.
There were probably more, but I am on to rosehip tea so little chance of remembering more tonight.
Thank you David and Gomonik. Great.

This is why I thought you might like!
That's very nice. :)
Zip.ca doesn't have it! But I will look for it in the library and other places.
