We did it! The fundraising for Tim and Cat's used car has reached - and slightly surpassed - the goal of $3301.
(If you're hearing about this for the first time, go here. Donations will be accepted until the October 23 deadline.)
Many, many, most heartfelt thank-yous to everyone who participated in this effort, by donating, cheerleading and spreading the word. Your willingness to share with a stranger in need is the very definition of generosity and community.
Truly, I am overwhelmed.
Thank you.

Excellent! I was willing to pledge my donation regardless of the outcome, but it's good that you reached the goal.
John, I think we all felt that way, but unfortunately, if we didn't meet the goal, the whole project would be deleted, no pledges would exist, and we'd be back to zero. So there was a sense of urgency to make it happen.
And it did!
Wow, that is GREAT!! I am thrilled for SoSock (Tim, to the non JOSers) and Cathy. Where did the last surge come from? Great work, Laura! Once again, the power of the Internet to do GOOD has been demonstrated.
Thank you, Amy! It was a true team effort.
We actually don't know where any donations came from, unless people told us.
Jere posted it on his blog, so did a reader named Andrea (see Andrea's Rambling Notes on the sidebar), both today.
Earlier, a few folks from my Facebook page kicked in, my mom asked me to donate again and she's sending me a cheque, many wmtc readers and JoSers... a scrap here, a scrap there, and we did it!
You have a facebook page? I thought you didn't do facebook. Maybe I should "friend" you, as they say.
This is awesome. And we wouldn't have reached the goal without you, Laura. You're the reason I chipped in. So thanks, once again.
I don't do much with it, mostly just for activism or to answer people who prefer it to email or blogging. When I was saying I wasn't into Facebook, I already had a page. It's just there.
I tend to have logins for everything, because it's convenient.
I never get when people say they can't do Flickr because it needs a Yahoo login, or they can't do Blogger because they don't use a Google login. I just do them all.
I use it to find people I might not otherwise find and to see photos that people post and to play Scrabble. I will send you a friend request. I won't be offended if you ignore it.
Oh no, I friend anyone who asks. I'll be happy to click on your request. :)
Thank you, Kim! Your enthusiasm for the project inspired me to continue it.
L-girl, you really brought us all together on this. I know Steph posted the appeal to her Facebook page, and I suspect others did something similar -- what may have put the pledges over the top was the old "each one reach one (or more)". You reached *many*, though -- well done!
A great effort and example of community working on both sides of the border. And congrats to Alan on the win tonight. Never in doubt right? ha.
Thanks, Jake! But only congratulations to Allan? Not to me...?
Oh and thank you David! That's very nice of you to say. The power of the blogosphere strikes again!
Have you seen the fundable page lately? It is a *little* wonky.
or maybe it's me who is a little wonky...is it normal to show less than yesterday??
Perhaps someone cancelled a pledge, or a pledge accidentally went through twice and now it's been corrected.
It looks like we're only $21 short, so if that difference remains after a few days, I'll put it in.
I'll wait and see how it settles.
Stephanie, David told me you plugged this on Facebook. Thank you!
absolutely my pleasure...
Laura,
If people wish to contribute still, can they? The fundable page says it is finished and the usual pledge interface doesn't seem to be available.
I'll check with Cathy and Tim. Perhaps they pulled it on purpose.
