to everyone whose blog i am following

"Following" blogs is not working for me.

Blogger's "Blogs I'm Following" function shows up on your dashboard page. I go to the dashboard a zillion times a day to check for comments awaiting moderation, for both wmtc and Joy of Sox.

Now when I do that, all the things I should or could be reading are staring me in the face. You can't change the default tab to Blogs of Note or Blogger Buzz. It's always the Following feed.

Seeing Blogs I'm Following a zillion times a day is contributing to my ever-present feelings of being overwhelmed, and the energy it takes to focus and manage my time. I need to return to my previous method of keeping track of people's blogs, through feeds on my iGoogle page, which I only see when I choose to see them.

So, dear everyone whose blog I am following, I am removing myself from your Following list. Not because I am no longer interested in your blog, and not because I will read your blog any less frequently. Trust me. It's a sanity thing.

It was more exciting to think you were snubbing me!

j/k

I've noticed that feature, but haven't tried it out yet. I'm diligent at visiting blogs that interest me, but only when I have time. That's working for me.

I can't even get the people who follow my blog up there, because I have to switch from "template" to "layout." (I never switched since my template has so much stuff in it to make it look a certain way, I don't want to risk losing the look of it.) And as for following others--I know what blogs I follow. Don't need to keep yet another list.

But it's funny. We were talking on JoS about a "roster"--and look, there it is. I can see a group of wmtc readers right there in the sidebar.

Right. Gotta stick with what works. Which I will now do!

Yet those readers are not the wmtc roster. Very few (if any?) of the wmtc crew - regular commenters - have signed up for following. Same w/ JoS. Apart from me and Sarah Gates, the people "following" JoS are not threaders/commenters.

I didn't even notice the following option until you started following me, LG. Sounds like it's less than ideal. Sorry for the lack of commentary from this quarter--been a strange time. And about to get even stranger.

As I am pro-spontanaiety (& a bad speller) that sounds like a good idea to me.

Thanks, Nige. And no worries, Wrye. I'm glad we're in touch through the blogosphere, even in some small way.

I just meant the concept to have a roster suddenly exists, and without anybody having set anything up, we now see the avatars of people (who happened to "officially" say they're "following" the blog) right there. It's weird how that happened.
