Ugh. It's only painful because there's no chance of appealing to Harper's humanity. Harper doesn't even pretend to be a "compassionate conservative."

Yes, that's true. But it appeals to Canadians' humanity, and it helps increase feeling against Harper.

Heh, and since when did Canada's humanity stop Harper?

Ryan, what would have us do, lay down and surrender?

We are fighting for people's lives, for their futures. We are fighting for peace.

We are appealing to Canadians' humanity so that they will raise their voices in anger and disgust at the policies of this Government.

It may not work, but doing nothing surely won't change anything. Leaving snarky comments about Harper surely won't change anything. We're doing what we can.

I agree, Laura. At least it can help to motivate people politically and especially electionwise against him and his government!

I apologize, my comments weren't meant to be taken as "snarky." I was just commenting on the fact that this thing isn't going to be fixed by our government. I'm not even sure that it would be fixed by a Liberal government. It had nothing to do with with the campaign, and a lot to do with the hostility of the government to the cause.

That being said, the effort must continue, regardless of what the government does or says. I'm sorry if it seemed as if my comments were belittling the effort, which must continue and everyone's personal effort should be commended. Perhaps someone should offer illegal sanctuary or something--I don't know. But I do know the righteousness of the campaign.

Thank you, Ryan.

I am sensitive to the "why bother, it won't work" approach to non-activism.

Also, we are reasonably confident that it will be solved by a Liberal government. We already have the votes to make it happen.

We are trying to keep everybody safe until that day comes.

Thanks so much, Laura. Willy Brandt, a famous German politician in the past, said: "Who stands up for something, can be defeated. Who dares not to take a stand, is already defeated anyway."
I am also confident a Liberal Government will help - particularly with the support of the NDP.
