another abortion myth debunked

Here's an excellent post from Impudent Strumpet about how reproductive decisions work.

The Salon story Imp Strump links to is written by Lynn Harris, who I used to work with in the Haven Coalition. Lynn is the co-creator of Breakup Girl, among other things.

I had the unfortunate displeasure of attending a Catholic school for twelve long years (granted the quality of learning was much better than that of the "Separate" School board in Hamilton---don't even get me started on how corrupt that system is, but thats another rant)

Anyway, abortion is just another topic that these mafioso-catholics used to brainwash the feeble-minded youth. Pushing their agenda onto the students who believe these things as facts - I was probably one of the few students who was actually able to think for themselves, and boy did it get me in trouble. I shouldn't say that, there were some people that were able to realize what utter bullshit they were trying to brainwash us with, but I would say the majority of students gobbled this up as fact due to the faith (no pun intended) they had been told to have in the school system - by parents, etc. Granted my dad's views are completely whacked, but at least he was able to make me see that the entire thing was bullshit...and bad for ya (/carlin)

They would show this video in religion class of an ultrasound of an abortion happening to shock-and-awe the students. Followed by interviewing distraught patients, talking about how they've completely ruined their lives etc etc...typical propaganda-style film, had no place in any curriculum. One day we're learning about Jesus having a cajun fishfry, the next we're watching this. Then its back to the water-to-wine the next day. No place in school, no place in life. 100% pure bullshit.

Also did you know that abortions are now directly correlated to fiery car accidents?

I'm not going to continue talking about the other atrocities with those religion classes, or the indoctrination centre where I spent my four high school years for that matter. It's late and I'm wiped. The abortion article here just brought back memories of my past and I felt like venting :-)

Thanks, Laura.

Thanks, Tim. God that sounds awful. Is it any wonder that some women feel guilty and confused about their choice?

Also did you know that abortions are now directly correlated to fiery car accidents?

And the t-shirt I wore last night caused the game to be rained out.

Is it normal to take an ultrasound during an abortion?

Not to my knowledge. I wonder if this "ultrasound" was even real.

I had a friend who attended Catholic school in Toronto. She told me there were mandatory trips to anti-abortion rallies. She put up her hand in class to ask a question about abortion and was sent to the principal's office.

L-girl said...

OMG. Can you imagine if public school teachers brought kids to pro-choice rallies??

I wonder what they had to cut from the curriculum to fit that in?
