great dog pics

Originally uploaded by JnL

On New Year's Day, Tala and Cody had a playdate with their friend Cobalt. James, Cobalt's dad, photographed the mayhem. Photos are here. Enjoy!

Update: you can read about Cobalt and Tala's emerging (and amusing) friendship here.

What wonderful photos! Is James a professional photographer? He really captured those dogs. And what wonderful dogs. I love how he captured their different personalities, especially calm and mature Cody. Where was his puppy? (I saw some link to puppy pictures somewhere on here, I recall.)

Nice props! I love the profile shot of white Tala against the white snow with the bright red ball in her mouth. A tennis ball would've looked just nice, somehow the detail of the red ball looks great.

I'm not a pro, but I enjoy trying to get nice dynamic shots rather than the usual "sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded by room clutter" shots you see on Flickr.

The new puppy isn't home yet -- we pick her up in two weeks. Here is what she was doing at the time these photos were taken.

The great thing about this play day is that the first time Cobalt met Tala, she was completely intimidated. The second time, she started standing up for herself. Now, she's not at all afraid to put Tala in her place!

Oh, what a cutie, James! Best of luck with your new pup. And I think you SHOULD be taking photos professionally!

Poor Cobalt, Tala really picked on her! Cobalt was hiding between Lori's legs, and was like "WTF? Why doesn't this dog leave me alone?"

The second time, she started standing up for herself.

I think that was at the party? IIRC, at one point, Cobalt (finally) turned around, snarled, gave Tala a little nip. Right away Tala became more friendly and less obnoxious.

Tala is definitely a bully. If the other dog is frightened or intimidated, she picks on it. If a dog is not afraid of her and stands up for herself, than she's friendly. And if a dog is much bigger than her and very alpha, she steers clear!

Now, she's not at all afraid to put Tala in her place!

And they had such good time together! It was a real treat for Tala to have a young dog to run around with. Cody plays with Tala, but she's too old to do what Cobalt does, zooming all around the backyard.

Yup -- I caught it with the camera.

Those are terrific. I especially love the 2nd link, with Cobalt lifting her paw and snarling, Tala hunkered down in front of her.

She looks like she's scolding Tala, who's 4x her size. :) "Now what did I tell you about harassing smaller dogs?"

Tala needs a good scolding! :)

Here is one of the few photos of Cobalt from her first encounter with Tala. You can see she wasn't thrilled!

I'm gonna go write this story up.
