follow-up of sorts: still waitin' on that iced tea

"M-Fer, I want more iced tea."

If you don't know what that means, first go here (scroll down to second half of post), then to see it live and in person, go here.

So you're back? We'll move on.

From Media Matters:
On the February 13 edition of her nationally syndicated radio show, discussing the February 12 Black History Month event at the White House, host Laura Ingraham noted that "[President Bush] welcomed [Rev.] Al Sharpton to the White House," and added: "I hope they nailed down all the valuables." Ingraham then aired an audio clip of a portion of Bush's comments at the event and remarked, referring to Sharpton: "I can't believe they let him through the front door there at Black History Month."

On another Fox radio show, host Tom Sullivan compared speeches by Barack Obama and... Adolf Hitler. Hitler. Barack Obama. He compared these. Then he denied doing so. You can check out the Media Matters stories and see what you think. Looks pretty clear to me.

This is going on. In the United States. Today.

I assume you are aware of Jonah Goldberg's book, Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning, which argues (essentially) that since Hitler was a vegetarian and was for animal rights, fascism is actually a left-wing phenomenon, just like communism.

Among his sources is "The Pink Swastika", a book that argues that fascism is a homosexual front.

Eyup. Aware. This is not that. This is comparing Obama and Hitler as great orators.

Which is more bizarre, I couldn't tell you.

I guess calling it a Jewish front doesn't work on this one?

Alternate answer:

You mean it's not?

Let's not forget this one.

January 21, 2002 -- Coretta Scott King and others unveil a portrait of the late Dr. Martin Luther King at the White House.

Bush: Mrs. King, thanks for this beautiful portrait. I can't wait to hang it. (laughter)

What you don't get from the text is Bush's slight pause before he says "hang it". And of course, his awkward heh-heh-heh chuckle at his own joke.

Has anyone invoked Godwin on this Tom Sullivan fellow yet?

Ugh! Exactly why Fox news is never on at our house. I wish more people would wake up and smell the lies.

I doubt it. Fox News is very into Hitler. Anyone the US wants to bomb is Hitlerlike. (And I'm sure that's only the beginning. A Media Matters search on the word Hitler might prove fruitful.) (If the site is searchable.)

Media Matters:
CNN's Carol Costello said that audience response at a Barack Obama rally is "a scene some increasingly find not inspirational, but 'creepy,'" quoting columnists who have likened Obama supporters to members of a cult or described their enthusiasm as "creepy." On-screen text during Costello's report read: "OBAMA-MANIA BACKLASH" and "PASSION 'CULT-LIKE' TO SOME." Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer similarly cited other writers to make the same assertion: "ABC's Jake Tapper notes the 'Helter-Skelter cult-ish qualities' of 'Obama worshipers,' what Joel Stein of the Los Angeles Times calls 'the Cult of Obama.'"

First Hitler, now Manson.

MM:
On the February 10 edition of Fox News' Red Eye, Fox News host Julie Banderas referred to Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) as a "Halfrican." Obama is the son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas. ... Conservative media figures such as radio hosts Rush Limbaugh and Brian Sussman have also used the term "Halfrican" to describe Obama. Sussman later apologized for using the term.

I'm sensing a trend.

Bonus:
CNN's Glenn Beck: "[I]f you're an ugly woman, you're probably a progressive as well."

Got to loooooooooooove that liberal media!

Media Matters is great for tracking the sexism, racism and xenophobia (Halfrican???) that's going on around this campaign.
