happy birthday to me

Hey, this is weird. I just realized I'm now closer to 50 than 40. Even though that's technically been true since last June 13, I just noticed it today.

I've been alive on this earth 46 years. It's good.

For some reason I'm reminded of an old FoxTrot cartoon, in which Roger says:

I'm closer to 90 than I am to my birth! AAAAaaaaugh!

You're just a baby!!

Funny, when I was in my 20s and 30s, I hated when my older friends said that. Now... not so much. :)

Thanks y'all.

Happy Birthday! Looks like 1961 was a very good year! (You are older than me by two months.)

The first pitch in the Red Sox game on June 13, 1961 was thrown to C. Schilling.

The first pitch in the Red Sox game on June 13, 2007 will be thrown by C. Schilling.

In the Yankee game on June 13, 1961, Maris hit his 21st on the way to 61, but the Yanks lost to Cleveland thanks partly to two RBI from...Tito Francona.

"in which Roger says:

I'm closer to 90 than I am to my birth!"

Another Roger will be able to say that in a couple of months...

Jere, thank you for This Date In Laura Baseball History!

I love that Tito was involved in the Maris game. I did know Maris hit 2 on my bday, but of course I didn't know the Francona connection.

Another Roger will be able to say that in a couple of months...

HA! :-D

HB L-G! Hope the writing is going well as I know this week was a tough one for you.

When my brother turned 26, I gave him a card in which I wrote "26. Dude. That's, like, almost thirty." The following year, then I turned 26, my sister gave me a card where I was quoted in full. I've learned to be nicer about these things. :)

The following year

You'd think if you were only one year behind, you'd know better. :)

Seriously though, what is it about getting older that everyone dislikes so much? What's so great about being younger? I mean, I was thinner, and cuter, but other than that, I wouldn't trade a thing.

Happy Birthday!

Now that you mention it, I reached this very same "milestone" just last October.

Yeah, you'd think so, wouldn't you? Well, I didn't.

Seriously though, what is it about getting older that everyone dislikes so much?

Yeah, I agree. Other than sitting back every few years and marvelling at how much time has passed ("Dude. Seriously. I started university fourteen years ago." And "Dude. Seriously. Twenty years ago, I was about to start high school.") But I don't really mind the aging much. Luckily it's come with greater disposable income and general good health. That must help.

Geez, I know. I do that constantly!

Luckily it's come with greater disposable income and general good health. That must help.

Oh yeah. Me too, and I'm sure that's part of my carefree attitude towards getting older. But most of it, for me, is about wisdom - and focus. Knowing more about what I want out of life, and focusing on that.
