"The Sarah Silverman Program" debuts in Canada tonight on The Comedy Network.
This show has a lot of potential. Many of us loved Silverman on the brilliant "Larry Sanders Show" (one of the greatest TV shows ever), "Greg The Bunny" and "Mr. Show", among other spots. She was hilarious in "The Aristocrats".
"The Sarah Silverman Program" co-stars Silverman's real-life sister Laura Silverman, the voice of the disgruntled receptionist on "Dr. Katz". Don't even tell me you don't know Dr. Katz.

thanks for the tip!!! I didn't think a Canadian network was picking it up
Didn't know who she was until recently when I saw a clip of her stand up.
She looks demure and clean cut, but my...how looks can be so deceiving, the stuff that comes out of her mouth! Made me blush.
But that was just one stand up clip, and I know she shouldn't be judged by just that. So is there anything more to her than just pure raunchiness?

You're welcome! :)

Ha! Yes, she is out there. Many people find her offensive - although I think more so because she's female. There's such a sexist double-standard about comedy. (Of course, I'm not saying that's what made you blush...)

Yes, definitely. I don't like comedians who are only raunchy. It doesn't bother me if they are, but it can't only be that - that's just not funny enough in itself. I think Sarah Silverman is really funny, especially in character roles.
Hopefully the show will be funny, too.
Well, who saw it? Thoughts?
I liked it but didn't love it. Then again, I laughed quite a bit. I'll watch next week.
I loved Jesus is Magic, btw. And I just found out that her sister was Linda on Home Movies -- awesome!
I laughed a lot. Definitely enough to watch it next week.
Home Movies? I don't know that. I'll look it up.
It was another great Adult Swim creation. I believe a lot of Dr Katz voices showed up on Home Movies now and then. It's on Teletoon at 12:30 am these days, too.
I'm quite impressed and happy that Comedy Network picked up Sarah Silverman.

Really, I've never seen it listed. I'll keep an eye out for it.
Home Movies rules--it was actually on the UPN Network, but Cartoon Network picked it up after the non-cable folks, I don't know, couldn't handle it, I guess.
And I agree with Laura--raunchiness is the easy way out, but Silverman is so much more. I hope you Canadians make it to the "Tab" episode. I had laughed so many times--more than I would at an entire average comedy show--, before glancing at the clock and being shocked to see I was only SIX minutes into the show...
It was a good start. I was expected to be more surprised (as opposed to offended) by her bits, but they may be starting off slow. (Also, I had read most of them in various reviews).

We get that way with classic Seinfeld. I'm dumbfounded at how much ground they cover before the first break.
Well, this particular joke was about rape. Way over the top on that one. Her ethnic jokes are pretty good including her "I love Chinks" joke.
I haven't seen her stand-up routine, because I generally dislike stand-up and avoid it. Maybe she's one of the few I would like (along with Lewis Black, Jon Stewart and one or two others).
David, are you avoiding taking the political compass test...?
Oh, I didn't know the invitation was still open since the results of the readers have already been compiled.
Took the test about 3-4 years ago and didn't like the questions because I thought some were rigged. But looks like some of them have been changed and improved.
Economic Left/Right: -0.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.95
Of course the invitation was still open!
Your results are very interesting. You're much more conservative economically (relative to others who took the test here), but not so different on the authoritarian/libertarian scale.
If you wouldn't mind, you could repost your results in the political compass follow-up thread. I am an anarchist with a strong sense of order. :)

Yes. Your wish is my desire.
Your wish is my desire.
Oh, very nice. You almost sound like the genie in a bottle: "your wish is my command".
I guess that would be going too far. :)
