We're off today to the Niagara wine region. We'll visit a winery or two in Beamsville, then head to Niagara-On-The-Lake for more tasting, and stay at a historic inn in that town.
The weather is being extremely uncooperative. It's raining here and looks to stay that way all day and tomorrow. I guess we'll spend less time outside walking and more time inside tasting.

Ooh, don't forget to go to the Sunnybrook Farms fruit winery. Their fruit ice wine is truly a thing of beauty, and you can't buy it outside of the winery.
I remember going through this region on the drive from Niagara to Toronto both times I saw the Sox up there, and seeing all the signs. I don't drink, but just that area seemed really cool. And I love rain. So you've put a wonderful thought into my head: all that green, with rain coming down, a fog over the lake. Good stuff. God bless the USA.
I mean Canada.

Small aircraft crashes into building in New York City.
CBC is just telling the facts -- took an eyewitness call. CNN is speculating all over the place. CTV is somewhere in-between.
I'm jealous, we love wineries!
Have a great time.

CNN had this to say: "[The East River] is the river between Manhattan and Queens, as opposed to the Hudson on the West side... picture Manhattan as an island."
As August J. Pollack put it, "Because, you know, I often picture Manhattan as a
dormant volcano, or sometimes one of Jupiter's moons"
There's an unfortunate baseball connection with the crash in New York: Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle was on board the plane. No news yet about whether he survived, though two people are known to have died.
CTV coverage
Here's CBC and CNN as well.
Too bad it's all grey and rainy out, Thanksgiving week is always the best time for fall colours on the Niagara Escarpment.
heh I lived in Vineland and went to high school in Beamsville for a couple years (a loooong time ago). Hearing the name makes me smile. I haven't mentioned it to anyone for years because I got tired of the response - "you went to school where?"
Hi guys, we're back. I'll post at more length later or tomorrow.
Any recommendations on where to go were a tad late, as we were already happily sampling by the time that comment was posted. (Hence my request for suggestions two weeks ago.)
But no matter, we went to lots of wineries, they were all fairly similar, and all of the wine is only available at the winery. We didn't have much interest in going to the big boys whose stuff you can buy at the LCBO.
The foliage was beautiful, and the gray and semi-rainy weather was no deterrent.
On the other news, Manhattan is indeed an island, the plane crashed into a condo (not a "tower" as the Toronto Star reported), but amazingly no one was killed in the building. Cory Lidle and his flight instructor were killed. Lidle was piloting, it seems.
Very bad news for them and their families, but other than that, just another accident.
