I'm still using Blogger, but with a different server hosting the domain. You change the publishing and archiving settings in Blogger to point to the server.
It wasn't 100% painless, but not bad. (What ever goes completely smoothly?) If you ever want to do this, ask me - I can help you avoid a few glitches.
Next up, the re-design. Hopefully in the near future.
There's a part of me that wants to do this, but I always hesitate when I notice how much higher blogspot-hosted blogs are in the google rankings. I'm told this is only because google owns blogger, but it drives people to my proportional representation faq on a very regular basis, so I'm hesitant to change anything! *grin*
I do like your new digs, though. Is a redesign easier if you can control it all yourself?
You can take a lot of credit for it! Your question started me thinking... :-D

I think that's a myth. Google works on indexing. The more sites that link to you and the more you link to, the higher up in Google searches you'll be. I don't think anything will change because of a different host.

Hmm, not sure what you mean. I'm still using Blogger, so I'll still use their templates. (Or, the person who's designing the new look will.) I've heard that Beta Blogger offers more templates and they're easier to customize, so I might do that.
The only difference is that I'm not using a blogspot address anymore.
Thanks, Matt! I went with your recommendation on Laughing Squid. So far, so good. I need a couple more answers from them in order to get the archives and RSS feed working properly, but it's coming along.
We (Allan's been working on it, too) did have the archives working, but when we got that down, the main page didn't publish properly. Right now it's one or the other, for some reason.
Congratulations on the move - and no customs inspection, complicated permit documents, fingerprinting were necessary.
In the redesign, please be careful to keep your good contrast in colours and readable text - important for those of us who don't have 20-year-old eyesight.
I find this site particularly good for readability:
http://narconews.com/
Many of the writers on Narconews moved from the US to Mexico or elsewhere in Latin America.
A possible change to WMTC - listing some links to blogs of people who have moved from the US to countries other than Canada - e.g. this curmugeon and very non-PC person, writer Fred Reed, who is quite happy living in Mexico. His latest post points to all the similarities between the US soldiers in Vietnam war and the US soldiers in Iraq.
I like what you've done with the place! Great stuff.
I'll be e-mailing you soon -- another trip to New York in the works (Stephen Colbert finally answered my plea for tickets!) as well as a Boston jaunt...
Oh, excellent! Yes, better take advantage of my NYC knowledge while it's still halfway up to date. Leave that city for too long and every place you know will hae changed, that's the law.

Your own domain name -- woo hoo! Congrats...
How cool! How did you manage to move the whole shebang over, blogger coding and all?
Thanks!

Can you publish an RSS feed with this blog? I'd love to add this new site to my blog reader.
Hi Jubileee! How nice to see you. I'll definitely have an RSS feed, probably later today.
Yes, an RSS feed please! Bloglines won't let me subscribe...

As the MacDonald's placemat from many years ago stated:
"Change is Good!"
Hope this works out for you . . .
Congrats on getting the domain working. Holler if there's anything I can do. You know how to reach me.
Thanks, WEB. :)

Readability is important to me, too. My eyes are a lot closer to 50 than to 20.
I link to people who link to me, and I prefer not to put links in categories. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
All the best in your new home, wmtc! Congrats!

Hey, cool! Good for you - oohhhh... your own domain name...
Doesn't take much to get us bloggers excited eh?? :)

Are you kidding? I'm like a kid on a really good Christmas. :)
It's Alive, It's Alive :-)
