It's taken me just over one year, but now I know this place is really my home: I've organized my first baseball outing.

Tonight, we'll see the Red Sox play the Blue Jays - sadly, a battle for second place - with friends we've met entirely through wmtc. Attending along with me and Redsock, will be Diamond Jim, James, his partner Lori, Matt of This Nurse and his partner YYZBoy. Five American defectors and two Canadian sympathizers!

The game is the Blue Jays' last home game of the season, and our last glimpse of our Red Sox before the long baseball-less winter. But I look forward to the winter. Following baseball is a full-time job, and I need a vacation.

This was an extremely disappointing season for Red Sox fans, the team starting out so strong, then being utterly decimated by injuries. And I do mean decimated - at times, nearly the entire starting lineup and a fair portion of the pitching staff were all hurt at the same time.

Because of my strange team history, and the religious conversion I underwent during the summer of 2003, this is the first time my team won't be in the playoffs since 1995. It's a lesson in humility: how the other half lives.

If you're in Toronto, let me know if you'd be interested in going to a game next season. (M@, you're already down.) Two things to note, if I plan it: it will be a weeknight, and it will be the Red Sox.

You didn't mention whether this is your first trip to the Dome. If so, take a good look at the Jumbotron. Apparently, my man Wily Mo hit one off it in batting practice on Saturday. I know it's just bp, but that's insane.

Oh no, we've been there several times. After all, we've lived here a full year already. Plus all our exploratory trips up here were scheduled around Red Sox games.

We marveled at WMP's Jumbotron hit anyway. :)

But man, did the Sox stink tonight! Who is this Shaun Marcum anyway - the second coming of Pedro Martinez?

We haven't had internet all day, it's just back now, so I think Allan is posting now...

Yeah, I should have realized you'd been, Red Sox aside, it IS the 8th wonder of the world (obligatory anti-TO sarcasm). I read your Sox conversion piece with interest. I've been a life-long Sox fan and lived overseas when the Jays were born in '77. I used to time my home leaves with the Sox visits to TO, and since my return to Canada in 92 I've made my annual pilgrimmage at least once a summer to catch the Sox. This stopped in 04, when the combination of marauding Sox fans and equally obnoxious Blue Jay taunters made me decide it just wasn't worth it. Plus I didn't want to contribute direct dollars to Mr. Rogers' act, but I think that's just rationalization. Anyway, glad you're enjoying the experience, that's what it's really about. Even when those damn Sox play like doo-doo.

Really! Wow, I find that makes it much more fun. I don't find the fans obnoxious up here at all. Very mellow compared to what I was used to.

Check out the comments in the thread "home". Amateur asks about this very thing.

And p.s. Woti, I hope you'll make at least one more pilgrimage, in 2007, so we can all go to a game together.

Only if they keep Manny and AGon. Just kidding--I'm in for the duration. Hooking up for a midweek game next season sounds like fun, we'll have to watch the sked.
