search

I am often amused at the weird search strings by which some people find this blog. If you use StatCounter or some other tracking service you've probably had the same experience.

I've been saving the search strings for a couple of days. These are only searches from search engines - Google, Yahoo, Dogpile, MSN - not people who come to wmtc through a link at another blog or website. And I'm not listing standard ways to find this blog, like "how to move to canada" or "canada immigration".

I am often amazed at how many people really don't know how to use a search engine. Here are search strings for the last few days:

american girl married canadian in the u.s. wants to move to canada how do i do that

Korean schools built by Canadian soldiers

i'm from the US and planning to move in Canada, do Canada honor US drivers license

what noise do sheep make

my number 1 is "lulu's sex games" because I once talked about a cricket game and a few months later about US laws against discrimination (gender, age, religion, disabilities, etc.). these people must be rather disappointed when they see my blog ;)

Oh, my top search terms are pretty hilarious:

#1 "space for rent"

#2 "hot naked sex"

#3 "united states flag 50x80"

#4 "flower sex"

#5 "sex hot hot"

And all of the sexy search terms point to this (SFW) hot-hot-hot seXXor action post, which is wrong in just so many ways.

I get huge numbers of hits from Arabic-speaking countries looking for "strumpet". This makes sense given the name of my blog, but I'm sure it isn't quite what they're looking for. (As a linguist, I find this fascinating.)

I also once had some random passer-by openly admit to being a white supremacist in my comments, and since then I've had several people google him and be taken straight to the page where he admitted to being a white supremacist.

I'd have to say my biggest hit is usually "who is rimbaldi". It's a reference to the TV show Alias.

In a later post, I mention the name is actually spelt "Rambaldi"...but no-one ever hits on the correct spelling...

"when potato salad goes bad" (from the Far Side, which I believe you commented on, L)

"gwen arajo" (which I misspelled and need to correct)

"fucky" somethingorother (I've christened W Fucky McFucker, but the googlers, I supsect, are looking for porn)

"how beastly the bourgeois is"

some variation on "penny story" (because of a post I did a
bout this crap inspirational story about pennies and god. Did you know that every penny says "In God We Trust"? Who knew?)

Oh, and today I got another visit from the DoD. Creepy.

Presumably anyone who searches for Rambaldi gets more Rambaldi-related sites and doesn't need your blog. People who Google "Danica Patrick" probably go to DanicaPatrick.com. But if they Google "Donica Patrick" they get a bunch of misspelled references.

Ewww.

Also ewww.

Check out my recent post for a list of my warped searches. But my favourite lately was "How to impale yourself"!!

Gotta love that. It seems so obvious, but perhaps it's more difficult than it seems?
