we move to canada
Congratulations on your "bee-yoo-tiful" PR cards! Very impressive! How proud you must be!
One of the things Ottawa does pretty well is graphic design for official materials. I always find US federal materials (money, ID cards, etc) bland and over-busy in comparisson. Maybe it's because of that over-busy flag they've got... :)
You know, I've been meaning to blog about this - thanks for reminding me. Canada has such consistent graphics. I was wondering when the govt standardized the font, the department names (Transport Canada, Health Canada, etc.). Maybe it's because of that over-busy flag they've got... :) Certainly by comparison, the Maple Leaf is so simple and beautiful. Very nice.
Thanks, Marce! It was great fun getting them in the mail. Still a bit hard to believe!
I was wondering when the govt standardized the font, the department names (Transport Canada, Health Canada, etc.).I'm not entirely sure, though I believe a lot of it happened under Trudeau.Certainly by comparison, the Maple Leaf is so simple and beautiful. Very nice.We should have showed you when you visited -- Lori & I have one of the three originals of the proclamation making the Maple Leaf the flag of Canada, signed by Lester B. Pearson and Elizabeth R.One copy is in Ottawa, one is in London (England), and since Lori's father did the caligraphy on it, so he got the third. We also have the last Red Ensign to come down at Lars Air Force Base in Germany before the Maple Leaf went up.Off-topic, how are you liking the change in the weather these past few days? It was downright November when I stepped out this morning.
Lori & I have one of the three originals of the proclamationWhoa! How cool! Thanks for that Red Ensign pic. I don't think I knew about that at all.Off-topic, how are you liking the change in the weather these past few days? It was downright November when I stepped out this morning. I love it. It's my ideal weather - dry and brisk. Of course the other day it was anything but dry...
Thanks for that Red Ensign pic. I don't think I knew about that at all.BTW, when I went to Wiki to find the Red Ensign picture, I found an article on Canadian Identity you might be interested in.
While I admit to being a total lefty, I personally can not stand the maple leaf flag. I would have preferred something a little funkier. Oh well, small price to be paid for living in the best country in the world. :)
I personally can not stand the maple leaf flag. I would have preferred something a little funkier.Hey, it's the only national flag in the world with a square centre stripe. It's certainly more immediately recognizable than any of the tricolours out there... :)
I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo jealous :-)Congrats!
Congrats. I guess you'll be staying then?;)
Those look awesome!I would like to point out that Canada currently has the most secure form of national ID cards for immigration, military and gov't ID in the world. They were just replaced about a year ago. Alberta also went to the same standard of cards for drivers licenses at the same time. All 3 of these pieces of ID have the same anti-conterfeiting measures and bar code/encryption standards.Just a cool tid-bit from a geek like me. btw there is a project to find out more about what is on the 2D bar code, but so far no one has figured out how they encrypt the data yet.And yes, this is the man formerly known as anonymous Peter... now I just need a symbol ;)
I guess you'll be staying then?;) Ha ha. I thought I might. would like to point out that Canada currently has the most secure form of national ID cards for immigration, military and gov't ID in the world. That's cool. Another commenter thought I should post them with the numbers blurred, and I figured better safe than sorry. I do like the hologram! So RFKAAP*, you finally registered! In another year, you'll have a blog of your own.* Reader formerly known as Anonymous Peter
I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo jealous :-)Me too, I want one!
Awesome! Dreams do come true!
Oh yeah, forgot to say congrats. :)
You both take a nice picture, by the way. :)
What a wonderful day for you! And for me, too! I bought a house there today. It's a good day to be Canadian!!
Thanks everybody! (Aw shucks, LP...) I bought a house there today. Wow! Congratulations!
A great day in all, only downer being the BoSox slipping from first place ... those damn pitching woes on good-hitting teams, we know all about them here in TO.Although, some serious spice has now been added to the final week of ball ... should be a wild one.
should be a wild one.In spades! In addition to the AL East, Cleveland and Chicago play each other in the final three games of the season. That could decide either the AL Central division title, the wild card, or both. Crazy.Alsothose damn pitching woes on good-hitting teamsthis is what the Yankees suffered from all season, but they managed to pull it together at the end. Hmph.
yay! congrats on this momentous event!
Welcome to Canuckistan!!!
Cool! Congratulations, you two.
wow what a great moment! Congratulations!
Yes they are nice photos...I like the maple leaf shown there. How about your driving license in Ont. are they similar? And of course, congratulations on this new adventure in your life.
Thanks everyone! Hi Gazetteer, nice to see you here. How about your driving license in Ont. are they similar? I still have my New York State license. Now that I have a PR card, I'm eligible to apply for an Ontario license. I'll probably wait until my current license is up for renewal.
yaaay!although your "mugshot" expressions made me laugh a bit.and, hey, nice specs.
although your "mugshot" expressions made me laugh a bit.Yeah, I always figure you shouldn't smile for those things. It's hard not to smile!and, hey, nice specs. Why thank you. We had (it seemed like) a million photos taken for immigration. Each time I had to wait for my glasses to lighten - you know, turn un-sunglass-y.
Yeah, I always figure you shouldn't smile for those things. It's hard not to smile!I think they put in a rule about not smiling on official ID photos a couple of years back. Caused a fuss.
when I went to get my US passport photos taken at Walgreens, the girl taking the picture kept saying, "smile!"--until the photo manager came over saying "no, no, no, no!" lol
You mean you guys are not putting yourselves through the serial killer/computer scientist test?
